Today, the world depends on oil as its fundamental transportation energy source. With the rapid rise in oil prices, a number of alternatives to oil have been attempted with little success. Today existing technologies and systems can provide the infrastructure and scale necessary to make electric vehicles (EV) a viable alternative to gasoline-based vehicles.
However low adoption rates sofar have resulted from the lack of pervasive recharging infrastructure with a network of recharge stations to provide consumers with the ability to keep their electric vehicles (EV) charged and functional at all times.
Now the escalating increase in the price of oil, and the downward trend in the price of nanosafer batteries coincide beautifully to to bring about a shift in the energy-transportation paradigm.. For the first time, it costs less to operate and maintain an electric vehicle than ICE-powered vehicle. By 2012, the energy production and storage required by an electric vehicle will only cost for a small fraction that of a traditional fuel-powered automobile.
Because they offer better performance and are less expensive, EVs are bound to become more appealing. Mass adoption will greatly reduce dependence on oil while minimizing adverse environmental impact. |
